Emma Spence: The Art of Surviving
Taal: NL
Categorie: documentaire
Taking a closer look at the life and career of Emma Spence, a Northern Ireland artist whose work has been significantly influenced by her family's farming traditions and also by the tragedy that befell them a decade ago. Emma, who grew up outside Hillsborough, lost her father Noel and brothers Nevin and Graham in a slurry tank accident on the family farm in September 2012. In this programme, she will consider the ways in which her art has evolved and changed in the light of the tragic event, reflecting on recurring themes in her works, most notably grief, trauma, and pain. Through Emma, viewers will be able to see how art represents rural life; how land and agriculture remain a vital part of Northern Ireland cultural identity; how art can be used to represent and understand loss, especially within the context of post-conflict Northern Ireland.
