Every year in the dark days of winter, Glasgow stages one of the biggest music festivals in the world. This year, Wales has been chosen as the nation to highlight and we join singer and accordionist Bethan Rhiannon as the Welsh come to town. This is a chance to showcase some of the best bands and performers from Wales to an international audience, both in person in Glasgow and online. With Covid restrictions lifting, audiences flocked to venues across the city. Avanc - the national youth folk ensemble, made up of some of the Wales' best musicians under the age of 25 - had their first chance to perform live together in over 2 years. And the Glasgow audience loved them. Performances also feature from The Trials of Cato whose debut release won best album in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards; singer songwriter Eve Goodman; N'famady Kouyaté who combines jazz, pop and funk influences and mixes traditional Guinean songs with new Welsh lyrics; and Cynefin - Owen Shiers has researched the lost voices and melodies of his native Ceredigion and brings them to a new audience. Joining the digital showcase are No Good Boyo - filmed in Cardiff's iconic Clwb Ifor Bach and Pedair. Mixing traditional and original music, Pedair brings together four of Wales best female voices: Gwennan Gibbard; Sian James; Gwyneth Glyn and Meinir Gwilym. And in Glasgow on the final night of the festival, Bethan takes to the stage herself, with her band, Calan, in the special atmosphere of The Old Fruitmarket.
