David Lean directs one of cinema's greatest love stories, adapted by Noel Coward from his own stage play Still Life. When two strangers - a suburban housewife and a doctor - meet at a railway station, they feel an instant attraction to each other. Despite the fact that they are both married with young families, they start to fall in love. However their secret happiness is marred by the furtiveness with which they are forced to conduct the affair. Ultimately, when faced with separation, the pair must make a decision regarding their future together.
